The NWA star O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson, 46, spoke candidly about his film Straight Outta Compton’s absence from the acting lists, when he appeared on the BBC One show, saying it would be "ridiculous" to get upset.
The Oscars have come under fire after it was revealed all actors shortlisted for awards were white.
But Ice Cube, who produced the movie, said: “If the industry gives you a trophy or a pat on the back it’s nice but it’s not something you should dwell on.”
He said that being upset about the situation was like “crying about not having enough icing on your cake.” The rapper added losing is always a hard pill to swallow, but the talent just need to brush themselves off and continue making great films for the audience.
Jackson said his movie has been well received by the critics and its legion of fans, so failing to impress the Academy is no skin off his nose.
He added: “We got accolades from all levels, from our core fans, from curious fans and from people that didn’t even think they wanted to see that movie.
"We got so much praise for the movie so how could we be mad that one academy or guild or anybody says it isn’t the number one. It’s like crying about not enough icing on your cake. It’s ridiculous.”
After speaking honestly, he received praise from fellow guest, actor Hugh Laurie.
He said: "I think by the way that that's about the sanest description of this whole process of awards that I've ever heard, I mean as a way of treating it, as a way of thinking about it."
Ice Cube was on the show to promote Straight Outta Compton's digital and DVD release.
The film tells the true story of NWA's rise in the rap game, and the personal woes they endured along the way.
While the cast haven't been acknowledged for their performances at this year's awards, the writers have bagged a nomination for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
